Materials used in our collections
What materials are used for our collections?
At Trois Kilos Sept, our priority is softness and respect for baby's delicate skin. For this, we carefully select the materials used in our collections. We prioritize natural, durable, and high-quality materials while respecting our environmental commitments. We invite you to discover in more detail the materials we use in order to be as transparent as possible with you.
Terry cloth
This material offers a high absorption capacity thanks to its manufacturing. Terry cloth is generally made up of a tightly woven cotton "base" and more loosely woven cotton "loops". It's the loops that provide this high absorption capacity. We use terry cloth for making our bath towels, washcloths, changing mat covers, as well as our bibs. For the latter, we mix 80% cotton and 20% polyester. This blend allows for greater waterproofing that will retain more liquids and won't soil the baby.
Jersey
Jersey is made with cotton, wool, or synthetic fibers. In our case, we only use cotton in our jersey creations. This stretchy, soft, and comfortable material is used in the making of bodysuits, the linings of our sleeping bags, summer pajamas, as well as fitted sheets.
Cotton poplin
This fabric is made from a very tight weave between threads of different thicknesses. This elegant material offers a certain structure with a soft and pleasant touch. For our Rose and Lili collection, we used organic cotton which is responsible, natural, and hypoallergenic.
Velvet
This material, known for its softness, is found in several of our items. It is created from tightly packed and closely cut fibers that give it this soft side. There are different types of velvet: cut velvet and corduroy. It can be created from cotton, silk, wool, jute, and other materials. In our case, the velvet is made of 75% cotton and 25% polyester. It is often found in our baby pajamas for their softness and warmth, but also in our early learning range.
Muslin
Muslin, also called "cotton gauze", is known for its loose weave and lightness. We use pre-washed cotton muslin to obtain an even softer fabric. Cotton gauze is generally found in our swaddles, washcloths, reusable wipes, as well as in our summer sleeping bags for its breathable, natural, highly absorbent, and soft aspect on baby's skin.
Linen
Created from the cultivation of a plant that only needs sun and rainwater. It is also known for its strength. Being a natural material, linen is hypoallergenic, insulating, and breathable at the same time. We use linen in various pieces of our Rose and Lili collection.
Softboa
This synthetic material, also called Velboa or Veloudoux®, is used in various fields including textiles. The fabric with very short fibers offers great softness. It's an elastic, resistant, and low-absorbent material. It is thus easy to maintain as it hardly wrinkles and doesn't shrink despite washing.
Acrylic
We choose this material, which is widely used in everyday textiles, for several reasons:
- It is a light and flexible fiber, offering an appearance similar to wool; a very soft touch that doesn't itch (unlike wool sometimes).
- Acrylic is often used as an alternative to wool in the textile industry, due to its similar feel and appearance. However, it doesn't require any animal exploitation of sheep, alpacas, goats, or rabbits. This allows vegan individuals, who don't consume any animal-derived products, to wear acrylic-based clothing.
Finally, acrylic fibers have the advantage of not wrinkling, so they don't require ironing. They also dry quickly in the open air, an additional benefit for young parents.
