From what age can a baby sleep with a blanket?
It is recommended to wait until baby is at least 18 months old before using a blanket or a 100X140 duvet for sleeping in their bed. Before this age, using a sleep sack is preferable to avoid risks of suffocation or overheating. Once the child is able to uncover themselves on their own, generally around 18 months, a light blanket can be introduced under supervision.
How to care for a baby blanket?
To maintain optimal hygiene:
- Washing: Wash the blanket regularly in the machine at 30 or 40°C, according to the instructions
- Drying: Prefer air drying to preserve the fibers.
- Avoid: Fabric softeners and dry cleaning, unless otherwise indicated, to not alter the fabric properties
Proper care extends the life of the blanket and ensures baby's comfort.
What precautions should be taken when using a baby blanket?
To ensure your child's safety:
- Appropriate size: Choose a blanket of suitable dimensions to prevent it from covering baby's face.
- Positioning: Place the blanket under the child's arms, tucking it well under the mattress to limit movement.
- Supervision: Do not leave additional objects (stuffed animals, pillows) in the bed that could pose a suffocation risk.
These measures contribute to safe and comfortable sleep for your baby.
For baby's first months, it is highly recommended to use a sleep sack for baby to sleep safely
