Improves the daily life of premature babies and their families

"Un petit plus" Association

The "Un petit plus" association is a non-profit organization. Founded in 2004 by all medical and paramedical staff of the Neonatal and Neonatal Intensive Care services in Chambéry.

Le petit plus

Its purpose is to improve the comfort and environment of hospitalized newborns on one hand and the reception of their family on the other hand.

The association is very well named as it helps finance the "little extras" of daily life for these families, which are not funded by the hospital service.

Today led by 20 members including president Ludivine Decottignies (pediatric nurse since 2007), many projects come to life thanks to the generosity of families, external donations but also through actions carried out by association members such as creating and selling recipe books, calendars, cake sales, Christmas markets, etc.

« Nous prenons à cœur d'apporter un petit plus dans le quotidien difficile des familles »
Ludivine Decottignies
Directrice de l'Association "Un petit plus"

Premature and very premature babies

A child is considered premature if born before 8 and a half months of pregnancy. There are 3 levels of prematurity:

  1. Moderate prematurity: Birth between 32nd and 36th week of amenorrhea.
  2. Very premature: Birth between the 28th and 32nd week of amenorrhea.
  3. Extremely premature: Birth between 24 and 28 weeks of amenorrhea.

When a premature, very premature or extremely premature baby is born, they will stay at least until the expected date of delivery (EDD), an average of 5 months; plus an additional period to ensure that this little baby can grow peacefully.

Note that the department also welcomes full-term babies who have health problems at birth.

The Chambéry maternity ward is one of the few type III maternity hospitals in France. This means that it monitors normal pregnancies as well as those with pathologies and deliveries.

It also includes a neonatal and neonatal intensive care unit. It is therefore a maternity ward that takes care of very premature babies, which is not the case for all maternity wards. Children from throughout the region who are born prematurely and/or need intensive care are transferred to Chambéry in this care unit. Note that approximately 1 child per day is admitted and about 350 babies are in the services throughout the year.

Why did Trois Kilos Sept choose this association?

As a childcare specialist, our company is based in Savoie; we therefore chose to support a human-scale association that resembles us and supports a cause that touches us. This association is run by healthcare staff who work daily with newborns and their parents. They are able to understand everyone's needs and give their time to improve the daily lives of these families.

After meeting a member of the association at our premises and discussing their stories and actions, we unanimously agreed to support their actions through product donations but also through an online collection that would allow them to finance and implement larger projects.

"Un petit plus" has already carried out several actions and doesn't plan to stop there:

  • Financing and decoration of the department and rooms,
  • Room decoration setup for families,
  • Manufacturing of incubator covers,
  • Christmas gifts, Mother's/Father's Day gifts,
  • Purchase of nursing pillows, mirrors for looking at and interacting with your child and doing skin-to-skin contact.

Upcoming project

Finance a secure transfer chair from the delivery room to the receiving service, where the parent can hold their child skin-to-skin with a non-invasive ventilatory assistance system.
